Lemons
Citrus fruit trees have been known to thrive in Greece and particularly in the coastal parts of the country. A delicious and wholesome family of fruit, known to the Greeks of antiquity, as the myth of “Hesperides,” symbolizes the desire of the Greeks to gain these delicious and juicy fruits. Nowadays, the cultivation of citrus in Greece is highly developed and is also an increasingly popular export product.
Lemons are produced by a hybrid member of the citrus family known as Citrus limon. The fruit is used mainly for juice, although most of the flesh as well as the skin can be utilized, especially in cooking.
Apparently, lemons are the first citrus fruit to be introduced in the wider Mediterranean region. Depictions of citrus trees can be found in Roman mosaics in North Africa, but the first clear description of a lemon is encountered in the early 10th century treatise on agriculture by the Arab scholar Al-Rum Koustus. Lemons are available all year round.
Production Process
The produce harvesting is carried out by experienced personnel, members of our staff because we feel that the harvest is a key factor in the entire process, just as important as he growing process, in ensuring the final quality of the product. Harvesting always takes place after the grade sugars (brix) have been measured and accepted by our specialists and of course after the various interventions taken to ensure the plants viability have been checked out by the health inspectors. The harvest is carried out with special tools all of which are sanitized before each use. The produce is packaged in plastic containers and transported by our privately owned fleet of container trucks. Our work force consists of trained packaging people who work under the constant supervision of the production manager and the quality controller. As with all our products the grapes are packaged according to the specific requirements of each client.
